concurso de cuentos   The municipality of Muskiz lies in the Somorrostro valley, at the northwestern end of the province of Bizkaia. It borders to the north on the Bay of Biscay, and is one of the group of municipalities known collectively as Las Encartaciones. The River Barbadún runs around its periphery and into the Pobeña estuary and marshes as it reaches the sea.

The municipality has benefited from the wealth resulting from the local mining industry, which has enabled it to grow along with the industrial conurbations of Bilbao and the left bank of the river Nervión.

Muskiz’s position on the Bay of Biscay coast means that it enjoys a moderate, humid climate with mild winters and summers that are not excessively hot. This mild coastal climate makes for rich vegetation. Not all the municipality’s coastline is beach: there are also steep cliffs such as those of the Itsaslur park.
