History
The Muñatones Sports Union was founded in 1967 as a result of interest in athletics in the area. Due to an increase in people practising the sport, the members of the board officially registered it as a club in 1982.
The first fruits came early, with members participating at several important events, including the Bizkaia, Basque, Spanish and European championships.

The board of the Muñatones Sports Union currently consists of:
• Tomás Arranz como Presidente.
• Regina Boza como Vicepresidenta.
• Encarni Lechuga como Secretaria.
• Goyo Soto como Tesorero.
• Luci Moran (Vocal).
• Carmen Becares (Vocal).
• Patxi Pajares (Vocal).
The Muñatones Sports Union now has 500 members and its offices are in the Muskiz sports complex.
The club currently has over 20 athletes whose fine work has helped make the club one of the most important on the Bizkaian athletics stage.
List of victories
The club holds an important position in Bizkaia, the Basque Country and Spain and has an impressive honours roll.
Most of its achievements have been local, including the Basque and Bizkaia championships (in practically all categories), but it has also had had some success elsewhere in Spain and the rest of Europe.
The following athletes have reached higher categories: Alfredo Villegas, Tomás Arranz, Jesús Mari Rómon, Tomás Bartolomé, Eduardo Hernando, Javier Urriza, Jorge Hernando, Javier Sainz, J. Ramón Higuera, J. Ramón Ferreiro and Luis Álvarez.
Club Honour roll:
• Bizkaia Cross Country Champions in the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16, Youth, and Veteran categories.
• Numerous Basque Cross Country Champions in the Under-10, Under-12, Under-14, Youth, and Veteran categories.
• Basque and Bizkaia Indoor and Outdoor Track Championships in distances of 60 metres, 300 metres, 600 metres, 1000 metres, 5000 metres, 1500 metres...
• Participation at Spanish and European championships.
