History
The Mello Mountaineering Club began operating in 1988, under its original name of the Muskiz Hiking Group. The group continued in this form for two years, during which time it was based in the Cantarranas public school.
Given the increasing interest in mountaineering in Muskiz, the group then formed itself officially into a club, becoming the Club de Montaña Mello Mendi Taldea [Mello Mountaineering Club].
The offices were moved to a room in the old sports centre (now demolished) at number 8, Avenida Antonio Trueba.
During this stage in the early 1990s, the club became a full member of the Basque Mountaineering Federation and the Spanish Mountain Sports and Climbing Federation.
Members of the club have conquered some important summits, including:
the Aconcagua, Chimborazo, Cotopaxi and Illinizas (in central South America); Mont Blanc, Domm, Castor, Pollux and Ecrinx (in the Alps).
El Aneto, Monte Perdido and Vignemale (Pyrenees); Toubkal (Africa) as well as making a number of treks on some of the leading ranges in the world
