History
The Itxas-Lur Canoeing Club was founded in Muskiz in 1999, to make use of the town's excellent geographic conditions and new interest in the sport among people from Muskiz and surrounding towns.
Up to them, canoeists had to fend for themselves, but the foundation changed all that. Canoeists from the area met up and practised together, encouraging others to enjoy and forming a club with several international licences.
Several members of the club have descended rivers and surfed the waves in different parts of the world, including Italy, Austria, Norway, Chile, Ecuador, Morocco, etc
Since its foundation, the club has mainly been involved with canoeing, kayak-surf and rodeo. Members have participated in the World Kayak-surf Championships, the Cantabrian Championships and the Exreme White Water Descent.
The La Arena Beach Kayak-Surf Championship was held in 1999, as part of the Cantabrian Championship along with trials in Llanes (Asturias), Berria (Cantabria), Muskiz (Bizkaia) and Zarauz (Gipuzkoa).
